Who is Robin Li?

Robin Li, co-founder of Baidu, China’s most widely used search engine, was born on November 17, 1968. He studied information management at Peking University and computer science at the University of Buffalo. he founded Baidu together with Eric Xu in 2000. August January 2004, Li became the CEO of Baidu, which went public on NASDAQ in August 2005. In May 2011, Li was selected by Asian Scientist Magazine as one of the 15 most important Asian scientists.

Li Yangquan was born in Shanxi, China, and his parents were factory workers. As the fourth of five children and the only boy, he grew up facing many difficulties. Despite the obstacles, Li received the second highest score from the high school entrance exam and was admitted to Yangquan First High School. During high school, he became interested in computer science and participated in programming competitions in the city.

Robin Li took the National Higher Education Entrance Exam and achieved the best results in all of Yangquan in 1987. However, he chose to study information management (computer science) at Peking University, where he started his education in 1991. Li then went on to earn a PhD in computer science at the University of Buffalo in the United States. in 1994, he rose to the Master’s level. But he took a break from his doctoral studies for a while.

At the same time, Robin Li is married to Dongmin Ma, whom he met in 1995 during the protests of Chinese students in the Greater New York area. They were married on October 10, 1995 in New Jersey. The couple have a daughter together.

Baidu Search Engine

Before founding Baidu, Robin Li worked at IDD Information Services from 1994 to June 1997, where he helped develop an online publishing program for The Wall Street Journal and conducted successful research on search engine algorithms. During his time at IDD, he also developed the RankDex algorithm, which measures site rankings for search engines and obtained a patent for the technology from the US Patent Industry. Li later used this technology in the Baidu search engine.

Between July 1997 and December 1999, Li worked as a staff engineer at Infoseek, a pioneer in search engines, where he developed a visual search engine for Go.com. In 2000, Robin Li founded Baidu, which quickly became China’s largest search engine with over 70% market share and the world’s third-largest search engine. Baidu went public on the NASDAQ stock exchange in 2005 and became the first Chinese company to enter the NASDAQ-100 index in 2007. In 2007, CNN Money selected Robin Li as one of the 50 most important people of the year.
