Savitri Devi Jindal is an Indian businesswoman and politician born on March 20, 1950. She is the Chairperson Emeritus of O.P. Jindal Group and also the Chairperson of Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha. The net worth of the Jindal family is estimated to be $20.5 billion.

Jindal was born in Tinsukia, Assam. She married Om Prakash Jindal, who founded Jindal Group, a steel and energy conglomerate, in the 1970s. Jindal served as a minister in the Haryana government and as a member of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) from the Hisar constituency. She lost her seat in the 2014 Haryana Legislative Assembly elections. After her husband, O.P. Jindal, died in a helicopter crash in 2005, she took over as the chairperson. She is a member of the INC political party.

As of 2016, Savitri Jindal is the richest woman in India and the 16th richest person in India, with a net worth of over $4.0 billion. She was also the 453rd richest person in the world in 2016. As the seventh richest mother in the world, Jindal contributes to the public work initiated by her late husband. She was awarded the Acharya Tulsi Kartritva Puraskar by the Akhil Bhartiya Terapanth Mahila Mandal in 2008.

Political Life:

Jindal was elected to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha from the Hisar constituency, previously represented by his late wife Om Prakash Jindal, in 2005. He was re-elected in 2009 and appointed as a cabinet minister in the Haryana government on October 29, 2013. In the previous cabinet, he had served as the Deputy Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Deputy Minister of Consolidation, Rehabilitation and Housing, and also Deputy Minister of Urban Local Bodies and Housing.

Under his leadership, the company’s revenue increased four-fold after he took over as the head. With his past experience and background in Haryana, he served as a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly and as the Energy Minister until 2010. The O.P. Jindal Group was founded in 1952 by O.P. Jindal, who was an engineer by profession. It has grown into a conglomerate of steel, energy, mining, and oil and gas. All four segments of the business are managed by Jindal’s four sons: Prithviraj, Sajjan, Ratan, and Naveen Jindal. Jindal Steel is the third largest steel producer in India.
