In 1989, Janice McNair and her husband Robert established the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation. The foundation aimed to remove some financial barriers that prevented graduates of Rutherford County High School from attending college. The first beneficiaries were from the class of 1990. To date, the McNair Foundation has provided approximately $2.6 million in financial assistance.

In August 2019, McNair donated $5 million to Pro Vision Inc., a community-building project in Houston’s Sunnyside neighborhood. This was reported as the largest donation ever made by an NFL owner. During the COVID-19 pandemic in Houston, McNair contributed $1 million to the Houston Rental Assistance Fund to help apartment residents who were at risk of eviction during the pandemic-induced economic downturn.
